What's a business for?

“Markets rely on rules and laws, but those rules and laws in turn depend on truth and trust. Conceal truth or erode trust, and the game becomes so unreliable that no one will want to play. The markets will empty and share prices will collapse, as ordinary people find other places to put their money – into their houses, maybe, or under their beds. The great virtue of capitalism – that it provides a way for the savings of society to be used for the creation of wealth–will have been eroded… Trust, too, is fragile. Like a piece of china, once cracked it is never quite the same. And people’s trust in business, and those who lead it, is today cracking. To many, it seems that executives no longer run their companies for the benefit of consumers, or even of their … employees, but for their personal ambition and financial gain.” Why would people want to make business or invest their money on an unreliable company? Why would they want to trust their capital to a leader’s company of dubio...

Is Money Good or Evil?

I loved reading the article “Attitude On Money” since I learned new things or confirmed my own point of view regarding this topic. Besides, it was fun, straightforward, and clear. Money is not evil. It is neither good nor bad. It depends on our attitude towards it which makes the difference. It is the love for or the obsession with it which transforms money in evil for us. On the contrary, if we seek after it to bless others and to help those in need, then money is a good resource to do it. Many years ago, while reading the Book of Mormon, I learned from prophet Jacob that it is good to pursue richness, if we do it to build the kingdom of God, to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, and to provide relief for the sick and the afflicted. And he promised that we will obtain reaches if we seek after them for the fulfillment of these noble pursuits. In other words, if we see money as a means to help others, God will bless us with it abundantly. This was such a fabulous discovery to...

Think big

The video titled “Think big” made me realize how many times we prevent ourselves of doing things because of the fear to fail. We underestimate our ability to produce something beautiful, of a high quality, or something that others may desire to buy. In my case, a weak self-esteem and a lack of confidence make it impossible to visualize how I could become an entrepreneur. I struggle to identify or recognize my gifts and talents and how to make a business out of them. However, I have big dreams. I want to become successful, and I am learning what successful stands for. If you help others in any way through your business, you are successful. If you make a change in the world and lift others up, then you may think you are a successful person. If you spread virtue, work ethics, honesty, integrity, and other remarkable values, you are successful; and if you are a good example to others and build a positive reputation in your market, you can be considered a successful entrepreneur. The Abillity of Executing

Every time I start a course that requires analyzing my skills and talents I face a great challenge. I am still trying to realize which star I should follow or which entrepreneurial path I should run into. It took half of my life to be able to identify my gifts and talents, but I do not know how I can make a business out of them. However, this week’s readings taught me something I will treasure my whole life. Reading “A message to GarcĂa” from the Acton Foundation, I discovered I have the very rear talent or skill of executing. I am the kind of person who enjoys having things done without the necessity of being reminded about them. I know I have a task to fulfill, and then I start working on it until I complete it. I love being proactive and solving the questions that probably arise when you are assigned a certain task. I feel confident and my self-esteem grows when my superiors trust me to do something because I put my heart on to not discourage them. As an employee, I have m...
