What True Success Means

To begin with this final post, I want to share some insights I have gained during this wonderful course. First of all, I have learned to identify the gifts and talents God has endowed me with. I have learned to go deep inside myself to identify what motivates me, what I love the most, what I enjoy doing, and what is the reason why I stand up every day of my life. I have learned I have a calling, a mission on earth to fulfill, and I need to use those skills I have identified to serve others. Secondly, I have learned that true success is not making lots of money or increasing our personal power; being successful in life means to serve, uplift, and bless others’ lives. However, the Lord has taught that we should seek for reaches if we do it for the right purposes. We can clothe the naked, feed the hungry, provide shelter for the homeless, or do other sort of charity to provide relief to those in need. Besides, we can be part of the establishment of the kingdom of God on earth. ...

An Attitude of Gratitude

“In the book of Luke, chapter 17, we read:   And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.” ( Luke 17:11–19 .)   “The expressed gratitude by one merited the Master’s blessing,...

What's a business for?

“Markets rely on rules and laws, but those rules and laws in turn depend on truth and trust. Conceal truth or erode trust, and the game becomes so unreliable that no one will want to play. The markets will empty and share prices will collapse, as ordinary people find other places to put their money – into their houses, maybe, or under their beds. The great virtue of capitalism – that it provides a way for the savings of society to be used for the creation of wealth–will have been eroded… Trust, too, is fragile. Like a piece of china, once cracked it is never quite the same. And people’s trust in business, and those who lead it, is today cracking. To many, it seems that executives no longer run their companies for the benefit of consumers, or even of their … employees, but for their personal ambition and financial gain.” Why would people want to make business or invest their money on an unreliable company? Why would they want to trust their capital to a leader’s company of dubio...

Is Money Good or Evil?

I loved reading the article “Attitude On Money” since I learned new things or confirmed my own point of view regarding this topic. Besides, it was fun, straightforward, and clear. Money is not evil. It is neither good nor bad. It depends on our attitude towards it which makes the difference. It is the love for or the obsession with it which transforms money in evil for us. On the contrary, if we seek after it to bless others and to help those in need, then money is a good resource to do it. Many years ago, while reading the Book of Mormon, I learned from prophet Jacob that it is good to pursue richness, if we do it to build the kingdom of God, to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, and to provide relief for the sick and the afflicted. And he promised that we will obtain reaches if we seek after them for the fulfillment of these noble pursuits. In other words, if we see money as a means to help others, God will bless us with it abundantly. This was such a fabulous discovery to...

Think big

The video titled “Think big” made me realize how many times we prevent ourselves of doing things because of the fear to fail. We underestimate our ability to produce something beautiful, of a high quality, or something that others may desire to buy. In my case, a weak self-esteem and a lack of confidence make it impossible to visualize how I could become an entrepreneur. I struggle to identify or recognize my gifts and talents and how to make a business out of them. However, I have big dreams. I want to become successful, and I am learning what successful stands for. If you help others in any way through your business, you are successful. If you make a change in the world and lift others up, then you may think you are a successful person. If you spread virtue, work ethics, honesty, integrity, and other remarkable values, you are successful; and if you are a good example to others and build a positive reputation in your market, you can be considered a successful entrepreneur. Bu...

The Abillity of Executing

Every time I start a course that requires analyzing my skills and talents I face a great challenge. I am still trying to realize which star I should follow or which entrepreneurial path I should run into. It took half of my life to be able to identify my gifts and talents, but I do not know how I can make a business out of them. However, this week’s readings taught me something I will treasure my whole life. Reading “A message to GarcĂa” from the Acton Foundation, I discovered I have the very rear talent or skill of executing. I am the kind of person who enjoys having things done without the necessity of being reminded about them. I know I have a task to fulfill, and then I start working on it until I complete it. I love being proactive and solving the questions that probably arise when you are assigned a certain task. I feel confident and my self-esteem grows when my superiors trust me to do something because I put my heart on to not discourage them. As an employee, I have m...

Overcoming Challenges

Sister Patricia Holland taught us: “You have so much personal potential, and this is the greatest place in the entire world to develop it. This  is  the time and this  is  the place!” These were inspiring words to me at this moment since I am trying to discover my potential, my calling, my mission in life. I know about my talents, my gifts, and things I enjoy doing. However, I cannot link them to an entrepreneurial activity. I do not realize how to connect my strengths and the stuff I can do better than other to a venture who can rewarding me for doing what I love. I am researching the job market to get some ideas to guide me in my searching for my dreamed job or business. And as she pointed, BYU-Idaho is the best place to study and to acquire the knowledge we need to be well prepared for nowadays market employment. In the chapter 5 form the book “A Field Guide for the Hero’s Journey” (Sandefer, et al. 2012) we learned that in our journey towards becoming a...
